When we first entered our apartment, it was dark and cluttered, with a low ceiling. Despite previous owners finding it oppressive, my husband and I saw the potential to open up the space and let in natural light. By raising the ceiling, we made a significant transformation. The well-decorated interior surprised us, with thoughtful details like high panels and frames. The combination of a backyard atmosphere, sloping ceilings, and elegant touches left us astonished.

My education and experience at Rønnow Architects have taught me to analyze and preserve original materials in any apartment, regardless of age. I strongly believe in maintaining a space's integrity and respecting its character. In our 1890 flat, we chose to keep the original floors, despite signs of aging and uneven cutouts. The durability and charm of the wooden flooring have endured for over a century and can last for many more years with proper care.

Preservation should always be prioritized, regardless of location or age. Appreciating architectural heritage and conserving unique features allows us to create a harmonious blend of history and modernity, ensuring lasting beauty for future generations.

Despite deviating from traditional restoration practices by moving a wall and creating a new kitchen, we approached the project with deep respect for the space's history. Our choice of durable materials and timeless aesthetics ensures longevity. Using high-quality elements is crucial when restoring the places we live in. While some historical aspects may be obscured, we strive to seamlessly integrate the old and the new, preserving the space's integrity. By making deliberate choices, we enhance our living environment and honor the space's heritage.

When furnishing our home, I prioritize timeless pieces that can be cherished and passed down through generations. My classic taste in design gravitates towards renowned designers like Børge Mogensen, Poul Kjærholm, and Alvar Aalto. Their furniture combines playful and organic shapes with simplicity and exceptional quality, which aligns with my overall aesthetic.

Kasper Thorup's furniture captivates with its exceptional craftsmanship and design, earning my admiration. His timeless style, especially those incorporating steel, resonate with me. Steel's durability and ability to develop a unique patina over time captivate me. Kasper's chair, in particular, strikes a balance between beauty and functionality, effortlessly blending into classic interiors adorned with books, art, and personal touches.
